A tubmlr picture went viral. Everyone’s minds seem occupied on one thing. Two camps were made. It was all caused by a caption asking a simple question: What color is this dress?

People were drawn into an internet battle revolving around the color of a dress, Black and Blue or White and Gold. Some people see one set of colors and the others some combination of the four. It freaked people out, who stared at the same picture as their friends, but saw something different. Like most Internet debates this only lasted a couple of days, but it left some questions unanswered.

Now, the actual dress is black and blue, so why are people seeing different colors in the picture then? Well, like most things it has to do with the way our brains work. Our eyes perceive light and then our brain interprets what it is seeing, it takes a lot of liberties with the interpretation due to the lighting around us, whether we are indoors or outdoors, or how much light is in the photo. In this case, all of these factors contributed to the way we see the dress. At first sight, the brain decides based on the lighting around you, and in the picture, whether the dress is outside or inside. This fact is one of the most contributing fact to the colors you see. There are other contributing factors and theories out there, but no one can know for certain. The brain is a weird thing that is hard to understand. “The Dress” incident is just another example of how we are all unique.

But most importantly: black and blue, or white and gold?
