Semester two may have just begun, but for many of us musical season is in full swing! Coming to the stage this spring is the rock-infused, ground-breaking musical, Godspell. First performed back in 1971, this show has and will continue to stand the test of time. The musical is based upon the Gospel according to Matthew, and includes 18 total musical numbers based on Jesus’ time on Earth. A celebration of life, joy, and happiness; this show will not disappoint!

Unlike a typical musical, there is a very small number of props, scene changes, costume changes, cast members, etc. Instead, Godspell highlights the talents of a select few without many other artistic elements. The leads will be backed by an ensemble, who will sing and dance along to the songs with the others. All characters and ensemble members will be on stage for the majority of the musical. To further prove the peculiarity of the show, the c
haracter’s names are those of the actors who play them, with the exception of Jesus and John the Baptist/Judas (played by the same actor.) Also, the pit is closed! The only accompanying instruments are a guitar, a bass, an electric keyboard, and drums, and they will be on stage the entire time. This musical is going to be unlike any other!

As always, opening night will be upon us in no time. Godspell will perform at the Paramount Theater in downtown Saint Cloud on Thursday, March 23rd, Friday, March 24th, and Saturday, March 25th. Tickets are already selling quickly, so be sure not to miss out on your chance to see many of your peers sing and dance on a stage in front of hundreds of people!
