Should Drug Companies Increase Prices?

In the last few years, the prices of medical drugs have skyrocketed. In fact, they are even expected to jump another 11.6% in 2017. In 2015, a company increased the price of Daraprim per pill by 5000%, from $13.50 to $750. Of course, this has caused a lot of outrage over the fact that people have to pay so much money for life-saving medicine.

What can be said about this system of profit vs. morality, where people care more about the money than the lives of the people the drugs are supposed to save? The irony is cruel.

It’s an absolutely ruthless way to make a profit. It basically benefits off people’s desperate need. Because people need these different medicines to simply stay alive, the drug companies take the opportunity to earn a few extra bucks.

All-in-all, drug companies have taken advantage of the needs of the sick. President Trump has even told companies to “get the prices down.” Only time will tell if and how this issue is resolved.
