The Tradition Goes On

Joe Schwieters

For St. John’s Prep soccer, this fall marks a promising and truly exciting season for the boys. Leading the team this year, is a gigantic class of seniors who bring a palpable energy to the game. The large quantity of seniors adds a sense of urgency to the season. Throughout the lineup, seniors lead their teammates with excellent play making and leadership. Most of them know full well that this may indeed be their last year of competitive soccer in their life, and are taking full advantage of their precious time playing the great game. For captains Andrew Mcgee and Grant Franke, it is time to win. Winning is what they plan to do.

After this season comes and goes, hope will not be lost for the Johnnie soccer program. Looking past this year’s seniors, the underclassmen of both the JV and Varsity squads show great potential, and will keep the Prep soccer tradition going strong. This year’s freshmen, or the class of 2018, are patiently waiting for their turn to shine. Next year, after the graduation of the bulk of the varsity team, there will be holes in the roster. With the numbers and extreme talent in this year’s JV team, there will no problem filling the varsity soccer roster for the next season. After graduating, the class of 2015 need not worry, for the Prep soccer team will be left in the hands of a great coach, great players, and great hope for more successful seasons.
